Schottland endows new business leadership award at Washington College

Stanley A. Schottland, retired CEO and chairman of American Packaging Corp., has established the Schottland Business Leadership Award at Washington College. The award is meant to encourage innovation and excellence in the next generation of American business leaders.

Each year, the Schottland Award will be awarded to a graduating senior who meets the academic, leadership, and moral criteria. The award amount is $5,000 upon graduation and $10,000 toward graduate school after the award winner completes two years of employment at an American corporation. Second and third-place winners will each receive $1,000 upon graduation. “It’s terrific that now there’s a formal award to emphasize the themes we stress throughout the business curriculum: the importance of quality, innovation, and ethical leadership,” commented Professor Michael Harvey. “The award’s design makes it both a capstone to the undergraduate experience and a bridge to a career and graduate studies.”

The first Schottland Business Leadership Awards will be granted this spring. The deadline for applications is February 1, 2000. •
